At present, there are many wireless chipmanufacturers on the market. Among them, Silicon Labs, Semtech and Nordic, TIare the most famous. These chip manufacturers have developed many wirelesschips. Among them, according to the comparison of their modulation methods, itis convenient for us to choose the appropriate chip type.

Take SX1262 chip of Semtech as an example, this chip supports ISM frequency band and Lora modulation with stronganti-interference performance and traditional FSK modulation. In practicalapplications, the anti-interference ability becomes more and more important dueto the uncertainty of the use scenarios of wireless chips. At this time, the lora modulation method provides a strong guarantee for reliable communication.According to the test results of the wireless module developed by NICERFWireless based on this chip, the receiving sensitivity can reach -148dBM. Onthe other hand, due to the characteristics of this modulation method, such asthe use of forward error correction technology, its transmission rate issignificantly lower than Traditional wireless chips using FSK modulationtechnology. The SX1262 uses the highest speed setting (SF = 7, BW -500KHz, CR =4/5), and its wireless rate is 17353bps, which is significantly lower than theFSK type wireless chip that will be introduced below.

Take the SI4463 chip from Silicon Labs asan example. This chip is a member of the EZRadioPRO ® family, supports the ISMfrequency band, and supports different modulation methods in differentapplication scenarios. In general, the supported modulation methods are OOK,2FSK, 2GFSK, 4FSK, 4GFSK. According to the actual test results of NICERFWireless, the maximum receiving sensitivity can reach -126dBm. Under thecondition of using 4GFSK modulation method, the data transmission speedrecording rate of the chip can reach 1Mbps, which is much higher than thatusing the Lora modulation method described above. chip. In practicalapplications, if you have a speed requirement, you may consider using thischip.

Finally, taking Nordic's nRF2401 as anexample, the chip supports GFSK modulation, the highest working rate is 2Mbps,and the supported frequency is 2.4G worldwide open ISM band, which islicense-free. It can be seen that this chip uses a modulation method similar toSI4463. Compared with SX1262, they both have higher data transmission rates.

Finally, compare the characteristics ofwireless chips with different modulation methods in a tabular manner:

The advantages and disadvantages of variousmodulation methods can be easily seen from the above table. After clarifyingthe advantages and disadvantages of various modulation methods, we will knowhow to choose the right chip for our project when carrying out the actualproject development.
