Current parameters are a very important parameter in wireless modules, and users who are unfamiliar with the product are easilyoverlooked. This article focuses on the analysis of the current parameters ofthe wireless module, hoping to help the majority of users. The wireless modulecurrent parameters are generally divided into three types, the TX current, the RXcurrent, and the sleep current. The transmit and receive currents are typicallycalculated in milliamp units (mA), and the sleep current is calculated inmicroamps (uA) units.
The TX currentrefers to the current consumption generated by the wireless module for eachtransmission of data. The TX current is determined according to the power levelof the wireless module. The larger the transmission power, the more the currentconsumption is required. Conversely, the TX current consumption is less. Manyof today's wireless modules work in a battery-powered environment, so if wechoose a high-current wireless module, the overall system working time will bereduced. When the conditions permit, the transmit power of the wireless moduleis appropriately lowered, and the system will work for a longer period of time.
Receive currentrefers to the operating current generated when the wireless module is in thereceiving state. Receive current is tied to power consumption in the industry.The lower the receiving current, the lower the power consumption. So when weevaluate the power consumption of a module, we can see its receiving current.The level of receiving current can directly affect the working time of theentire system.
Sleep currentrefers to the current consumption consumed by the wireless module when it isnot working. Although the sleep current is usually uA level, this parameter isequally important for systems that require battery power.
The working modeof the wireless module is generally divided into two types. One is to set onemodule as the transmitter (only responsible for transmitting), and the other modulesare set as receivers (only responsible for receiving). In this mode, we canchoose one module that RX current is very low , such as the lora1268F30 module,has a power of 33dBm, but the receiving current is only 5mA, and the sleepcurrent is <2uA. We only need to ensure that the transmitter has a stablepower supply, so this system can work very much for long time.
Another mode ofoperation is that when the receiver also needs to return data, the power of thereceiver should be properly adjusted. Otherwise, the transmitter will notreceive the returned data, If it is required that the system works for a longtime and the device does not have a stable power supply, it is recommended toselect a module with lower power consumption, such as thelora1268 module, 160mw power, 110mA emission current, 5mA receiving current,and the minimum sleep current is only 0.9. uA.
